States and territory governments will be thrown an extra $1 billion by the federal government to help boost housing supply. The funding will be paid to jurisdictions on Friday and includes $304 million for projects in NSW, $248 million for Victoria, $199 million for Queensland and $105 million for WA.
Ps clash over housing policy amid massive shortfall. The South Australian government will receive $67.4 million as part of the housing package, while Tasmania, the NT and the ACT will each get a smaller portion, at $25 million each. Experts say 240,000 new homes need to be built annually to deal with the shortfall, however, dwelling approvals were only at 163,000 homes so far this year, well behind that target, according to figures cited by Sunrise.
