The Alabama Music Hall of Fame is celebrating the iconic band. Images from Lynyrd Skynyrd’s years of success in the music industry are now on display at the band’s museum in Tuscumbia. The group recorded the song in Georgia, but also frequently recorded their music at Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in Sheffield, which some say is the song’s true home.
American Idol winner, and hall of fame board member, Taylor Hicks will perform the song at Thursday’s event. “I’ve always played Sweet Home Alabama,” said Hicks. “I think just for every Alabamian, I think it’s kind of our theme song. Especially being it 50 years of hearing that song and having that song performed all around the world. Just being an Alabamian, it’s really special.”
