ESKASONI, N.S. — This week’s announcement of Eskasoni Health Centre receiving a new ultrasound unit is music to the ears of Eskasoni resident Kathy Denny.
Denny experienced a need for an ultrasound locally when she found herself in a medical situation. The province-wide long wait times made for a stressful situation. “The need was first established a couple years ago, our health centre started asking questions about the possibility of it happening and having this service in our community,” he said.
“There are long wait times around the province, in Cape Breton especially, and having our own here in Eskasoni will be a really good thing to enhance our capacity for comprehensive prenatal care as well as a variety of medical conditions,” he said. “This one is closer to home. Less need for transportation, an increase in access, a reduce in stress. We’re always looking for more opportunities to have more services,” Francis said. “This was a strong partnership between Nova Scotia Health and Eskasoni to make this happen, I want to emphasize that.”And Nova Scotia Health was happy to do it, says Raylene McGhee, the director of diagnostic imaging for the Eastern Zone at Nova Scotia Health.
