A top trade analyst has warned US legislators that China and Russia would celebrate should the US not renew the African Growth and Opportunity Act , as this would only serve to alienate African countries from Washington, DC.
"Failure to renew AGOA would be a strategic disaster for the US," said Daniel Runde, vice president at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies, in prepared remarks before a trade committee earlier this month. "AGOA is critical for US national security in a sensitive region of the world; champagne corks will pop in Beijing and Moscow over our failure to renew AGOA."
