Get excited, "Shrek" fans. More than 20 years after the first film’s release, Eddie Murphy confirmed that work on an upcoming fifth movie has already begun – and Donkey is apparently getting his own spin-off, too. Murphy, who has voiced the beloved Donkey character in the "Shrek" franchise, revealed the news in an interview with Collider this week while promoting "Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.""We started doing Shrek 4 or 5 months ago.
"DreamWorks Animation Studios, which produces the "Shrek" films, did not immediately confirm the updates. The popular animated franchise began in 2001 with the release of "Shrek," loosely based on the stories written by William Steig in 1990. The original film follows a big green ogre voiced by Mike Myers, who lives in a "far away swamp" and is forced on an adventure to save Princess Fiona from a dragon by the evil Lord Farquaad .
