The race is on to rescue a man trapped in a deep backyard hole in Perth’s northern suburbs. The 46-year-old man’s leg is trapped and emergency services are working delicately amid fears the 3m-deep trench may collapse.

Man trapped in deep hole in Hillarys backyard. The fire brigade was alerted to the incident on Orbell Rd in Hillarys about 3pm on Tuesday, with several specialist crews called in. The man has been given a blanket, received water and been assessed by paramedics. He is conscious and speaking with emergency services. Chopper pictures show the area cordoned off and several emergency workers standing by.
