A woman was hospitalised after being hit by a car in a cemetery carpark in Darwin’s north on Friday afternoon, with police now appealing for help to find those responsible. The woman was hut by the vehicle in the carpark of the Darwin General Cemetery in Jingili just before 2.50pm, police said. The vehicle fled the scene, and the woman left the cemetery before help arrived but was later found outside Nightcliff Police Station.
Police say they received information the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run was heading to a remote community with a “large quantity of alcohol and a quantity of cannabis”. “A short time later, Daly River members located the vehicle, and a tyre deflation device was successfully deployed bringing the vehicle to a stop before the occupants fled into nearby bushland,” NT Police say. The car, alcohol and cannabis were seized. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
