A young man is in a coma after collapsing on a Gold Coast nightclub dancefloor during what police suspect was a cocaine overdose. The man, who is aged in his 20s, was at the Cocktails nightclub in Surfers Paradise just after midnight on Sunday when he fell to the floor. “It was reported by security there that the male had been dancing on the floor, had collapsed had actually stopped breathing,” Acting Superintendent Scott Knowles said on Monday.
” Police evacuated the nightclub while multiple crews of paramedics treated the man. They took him to Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition. He remains there on Monday in a coma. Knowles said his friends told police that he had been “consuming cocaine during the evening, prior to attending the nightclub”. “It appears that’s what’s contributed to him collapsing on the dancefloor,” he said.
