During an emotional chat with Graeme Smith on Virgin Radio Pride, the actor - who played the character Gareth in the popular Channel 4 soap - shared that he's been living with the virus since before he met his husband David Allwood in 2013.
"So, I was delayed but, yeah, I told you straight away and I was gobsmacked by David because he knew his stuff and he wasn't phased by it and that just put me at ease straight away." He said: "I've had messages, people saying things like, 'Such a shame you spoilt yourself, you've ruined yourself.' Luckily I'm quite strong willed and in a good place mentally, but that can be very damaging to someone who's not."
On the other hand, his husband David has been taking PrEP for about 11 years, which reduces the risk of contracting HIV by approximately 99 percent, and he continues to test negative.
