“The event might have been viable, but the rising cost of everything left us with projections ranging from slight profit to massive loss.'

Financial woes have forced organisers to pull the plug on a summer Perthshire music festival for good.MugStock had been planned for August 2 to 5, but organisers announced last week “rising costs” meant it was a gamble to proceed with the event.

Acts set to appear in August this year included The Coral, Craig Charles, Utah Saints, Shooglenifty and The Rezillos. According to a statement on the MugStock website “all tickets had been refunded” for the 2024 event which “will be the end for MugStock as a festival”. Last year’s event, according to organisers, saw “a significant spike in ticket sales” following a public plea, but sales fell short by around 50 per cent of the target and soaring costs had impacted the budget by up to 40 per cent in some areas.
