New York actor and comedian Hiram Kasten has died at 71 after battling Crohn's disease his entire life and prostate cancer for seven years.

from 1993 to 1994. He rose to fame after being a frequent performer at Comic Strip in New York. His friend Jerry Seinfeld also performed there in the past. Kasten also performed stand-up at Improv, the Comedy Cellar, Carolines on Broadway and Dangerfield’s during his career, according toJerry Seinfeld passed Hiram on his first audition, and he became a regular. The two actors/comedians became close friends and had a friendship for 45 years.

His obituary states how he ‘loved show business and lived his dream of being in show business’ but ‘his most satisfying and greatest role though was as a family man’ to his wife Diana and daughter, Millicent Jade Kastenbaum.Jerry Seinfeld looked downcast as he stepped out for dinner in Sydney on Monday following the death of his close friend and co-star. Seinfeld, 70, appeared sombre as he left the Italian restaurant Fratelli Paradiso in Potts Point, Sydney.
