New York Mets owner Steven Cohen addresses the obvious impetus for the team to be active on the trade market as sellers while preaching unusual optimism.

The New York Mets are perhaps the most fascinating team to watch in a small group of possible sellers as Major League Baseball's annual trade deadline approaches. It's not that the Mets collectively have the best players who might get moved between now and the July 30 deadline, though they might have one. The fascination surrounding the Mets stems from the simple fact that they can afford to pay down any contract on their books.

The six players currently on their injured list include ace Kodai Senga, closer Edwin Diaz, and starting catcher Francisco Alvarez. While the Mets have struggled to stay healthy and competitive, the division-rival Philadelphia Phillies have emerged as the best team in the National League. After splitting the two games in London against the Mets, the Phillies are 45-20, the best record in the National League.
