The history of satellite tagging whale sharks in India dates back to 2011 when WTI embarked on a groundbreaking study by tagging eight individuals. The data collected for six years provided a glimpse into the extensive migratory patterns of these creatures, with one female whale shark tagged near the Sutrapada fishing village in December 2016 setting a record for the longest-tracked individual from the Indian subcontinent, covering a staggering distance of 4,660 .
