Clare Adamson has welcomed the latest figures which show a record number of young carers have received support from the Scottish Government.

MSP Clare Adamson is urging young carers in Motherwell and Wishaw to check if they are eligible for financial support from the Scottish Government.

Since the Young Carer Grant was launched in 2019, over 12,000 payments totalling £4 million have been made, and since March 2023 almost £1.4m has been paid - almost 60 per cent more than the year before.Get all the news from your area – as well as features, entertainment, sport and the latest on Lanarkshire’s recovery from the coronavirus pandemic – straight to your fingertips, 24/7.

Ms Adamson, MSP for Motherwell and Wishaw, said: “Young carers play a crucial community role, but many still don’t know they are eligible for financial help. Some people who look after a friend or loved one do not consider themselves to be a young carer. “I am urging my constituents in Motherwell and Wishaw – and any young people between the ages of 16 and 18 who look after someone – to find out if you are eligible for this grant.”
