Nine Entertainment chairman Peter Costello denies assaulting a journalist at Canberra Airport after The Australian posted footage that appears to show Mr Costello walking towards reporter Liam Mendes, who was asking him questions, before Mr Mendes falls backwards.

Nine Entertainment chairman Peter Costello has denied assaulting a journalist from The Australian at Canberra Airport.

Mr Costello said Mr Mendes was walking backwards while filming and tripped over an advertising placard.Mr Costello also denied people who see the footage would describe him as being aggressive. Mr Costello said he was "sorry" that Mr Mendes hit the advertising bollard, that he wished that did not happen, and that he was not angry during the altercation.Canberra Airport has told the ABC it was unaware of the incident and did not have any comment.
