Sylvia Sanchez News

Nathan Studios, which is headed by actress-turned producer Sylvia Sanchez, recently acquired six animation films for distribution in various platforms — whether theatrical or streaming — in the Philippines after attending the film market at the recently-concluded Cannes International Film Festival in France.

Director’s Factory, a 10-year-old program by the indepedent selection of the Cannes Film Festival Quinzaine Des Cineastes, spotlights the Philippines this year. Photo shows Ruby Ruiz, Shaina Magdayao, Bianca Balbuena- Liew , Brad Liew , Dominique Welinski and Sylvia Sanchez.MANILA, Philippines —

Apart from the animated flick, they also bought a Korean horror title. “Sa susunod, drama naman or romance,” she added. The short film selected for the Directors’ Factory Philippines is an omnibus film project initiated by the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight, also known as Quinzaine des Cinéastes, an independent section that runs parallel to the Cannes Film Festival. Established in 1969 by the French Directors Guild, it focuses on discovering new talents and providing a platform for filmmakers who might otherwise be overlooked by the mainstream festival circuit.

Meanwhile, Sylvia also announced a strategic investment partnership with the Singapore-based production outfit Momo Film Co. to collaborate on a series of projects. According to Sylvia, her goal for this partnership aims to enhance the visibility of Filipino talent on the global stage and marks a significant milestone for both production companies.

Born during the pandemic, Nathan Studios ventured into film and TV production, starting with “Cattleya Killer,” a co-production with ABS-CBN International Productions. It was the first Filipino drama-thriller series showcased at MIPCOM Cannes. It has since evolved into a multi-faceted production outfit, co-producing Ice Seguerra’s anniversary concert, “Becoming Ice” as well as “Divine Divas: The Ultimate Drag Experience.
