A man accused of crashing a car into an Uber on Brisbane’s outskirts, killing one of the rideshare passengers, has been charged with murder. Kai Colin Matthew Fursey, 28, will face court on Wednesday over the murder of 30-year-old Ryan Grafton at Wacol in the early hours of May 28. Fursey allegedly fled the scene of the crash and was at-large for a week before handing himself into Acacia Ridge police station on Monday night. He was charged a day later.
Police have not revealed why they have charged Fursey with murder, instead of a lesser offence of manslaughter or dangerous driving causing death, which are preferred when fatal vehicle crashes are not believed to be deliberate. Fursey is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday. He cannot apply for bail at the hearing due to the seriousness of the charges.
