Great British School Swap reveals the racial stereotypes held by white and Asian kids

The Great British School Swap sees children from two different backgrounds come together in a culture shock, which unearthed some interesting and troubling perceptions about each other.

The Channel 4 show sees 12 year eight and year nine pupils from Saltley Academy, a secondary school in Birmingham where less than one percent of the children are White British, swap with 12 pupils from Tamworth Enterprise College where 95 per cent are from that demographic. The show aims to dispel the misconceptions about each other, with one scene seeing the class anonymously post some of the stereotypes they had about each race.On the white British list was eating bacon, being lazy, getting drunk and hilariously, naked beaches.Asian British people, meanwhile were associated with burkas, Primark, and more worryingly, ‘horrible and nasty’ personality traits.

‘Now from that questionnaire, what I learnt is that each and every one of you have different perceptions of each other,’ says teacher Mr Wahab.
