Whether the sun comes out or you’re stuck in The City’s fog this summer, there’s no reason not to get out and see some adventures on the big screen. From blockbusters to indie darlings, here are The Examiner’s picks of the most promising offerings of the season.Summer just isn’t summer without some kind of outdoor adventure featuring a running, jumping, driving, swinging, fighting hero, whether it be Indiana Jones, Tarzan, James Bond, or what have you.

This year’s program includes the Sundance hit “My Old Ass,” with Aubrey Plaza; a new 30th anniversary restoration of Rose Troche’s great 1994 film “Go Fish”; and an outdoor screening of the documentary “Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero” to kick things off.Director Jeff Nichols, who tends to tell keenly-observed, nuanced stories of rural characters in movies such as “Take Shelter” and “Mud” — his most recent film, “Loving,” was one of the best movies of 2016 — returns after an eight-year absence.
