THE Ateneo de Manila University and the Embassy of Italy in the Philippines, in cooperation with the Manila Symphony Orchestra Foundation, co-organized an exciting concert devoted to music by the composer of 'Tosca' and 'Turandot' at the Arete Ateneo Hyundai Hall in Quezon City on May 26.Titled 'The Young Puccini,' the event featured the musician's compositions that had never been performed in the Philippines or perhaps all of Southeast Asia.

'Le Villi' was rejected when it was presented as an entry to a contest for young opera composers , but the quality of its music was such that money was raised among the intellectuals of Milan in order to make a series of performances of the opera possible,' Clemente said. The success that followed was instantaneous and ensured Puccini the admiration of the most famous Italian music publisher, Giulio Ricordi, who became his mentor and staunchest supporter ever since.
