Nine’s new news and current affairs chief Fiona Dear admitted there was a culture of power games at the network, as besieged company executives scrambled to address a growing staff revolt over allegations of lecherous and toxic behaviour by her predecessor Darren Wick.
Nine executives face questions over their handling of complaints against former news chief Darren Wick.Three women have now alleged to this masthead that Wick, the powerful news and current affairs chief for the past 13 years, brazenly groped them in public view of their colleagues. Others said they witnessed it at events such as the Logies and Christmas parties.
“Mostly he’d play off young women in that regard, and kept them hungry and starved for the next on-air presenting role. It was a really gross culture.” At the meeting Sneesby said the “alleged serious failings of leadership in television news clearly tells me more work needs to be done to ensure we have a safe and inclusive workplace throughout Nine”.
