As Australia’s east coast shivers through freezing weather, many are struggling with a cold or flu. If a nasty cough is disrupting your sleep, or that of a little one, a former paramedic has revealed a simple remedy. Nikki Jurcutz, who worked as a paramedic for eight years with Ambulance Victoria, said a spoonful of honey worked wonders for relieving a niggling cough at bedtime.
When infants ingest the spores of the bacteria, they can experience symptoms such as constipation, loss of appetite, weak suck, weak cry and muscle weakness including poor head control. A 2007 US study found honey was the most effective treatment for nocturnal cough in adults and children. In the research, parents rated honey most favourably for symptomatic relief of their child’s cough.
