Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Franchises often have a shelf life with an expiration date, and it only takes one movie to turn a fanbase away from an expansive franchise. Hollywood is currently in the era of franchises and big IP expansions. Almost every movie that strikes big at the box office belongs to a larger franchise of films, but no franchise lasts forever.

Instead, the film focused on political drama and minimal action sequences with over-the-top flashy explosions. This was a clear departure in tone and expectations on the cutting room floor. Despite the incredible success of the movie, and it's briefly getting the number one all-time highest box office earnings, the MCU finished at Endgame for many people.

3 Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen When the live-action Transformers movies, directed by Michael Bay, started coming out in 2007, fans flocked to see the childhood heroes paraded on the big screen. However, the first movie gained generally positive reviews, with some more lukewarm, and failed to do anything truly innovative. This already made the franchise appear weaker, and it wasn't helped when the sequel came out 2 years later in 2009.
