When Joaquin Phoenix took on the role of Jesus in the new film"Mary Magdalene," he did many of the expected things: Grew long hair, adopted an intense and otherworldly stare, even meditated on a mountaintop.
But there was one thing he would not do. Near the beginning of"Mary Magdalene," which opened Friday in the United States, the script called for Jesus to heal a blind woman by rubbing mud in her eyes, an echo of John's Gospel. "I knew about that scene from the Bible, but I guess I had never really considered it," Phoenix told CNN in a recent interview. "When I got there, I thought: I'm not going to rub dirt in her eyes.
Hey, it's cool. Liberal atheists know what Jesus would or would not do. rolls eyes
Well he just doomed this movie. No Christian in their right mind will go watch a movie that this clown decides to rewrite the Bible
Is it buttstuff? I bet it was buttstuff.
Human is Latin Humus ' soil ground ' + man ...Ground man Gen 2 : 7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground When Jesus put mud on the blind woman's eyes He literally used the building material of what man was formed out of to ' rebuild 'her eyes
I like how everyone is Jesus wasn’t white blah blah blah I don’t think he was even real.
BurkeCNN Well in the Bible God creates man out of clay. So, you know, maybe Jesus is channeling the creation story. Giving her new eyes, by symbollically using clay/dirt. Isn't this an obvious explanation?!?
But Jesus was dark skinned,
But did a he change something in 'Walk the Line' script of 'Gladiator'? Why always religious stuff. Like in 'Noah'? When is last time people had a big hang up about fallacies in books about any other historical period to extent of the Bible? Don't worry, I'll wait
Phoenix said he sought to portray the humanity of Jesus while recognizing his divinity as well. '...all of us contain both of those things simultaneously. That's my personal belief.' So recognizing the divinity of Jesus or that all humans are divine? Very different things.
I can't believe anyone still goes to see anything made by these people.
Who does that? Joaquin asks. Genesis 2:7, “Then the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life.” As Creator, Jesus makes new eyes for the blind man.
Walk on water?
I'll never understand why Hollywood makes movies from the Bible without realizing the people that would support them are Christians that do not want to see scripture challenged. I don't guess we'll see any Hollywood actors playing Muhammad.
Joaquin needs more makeup
Biblical scholar corrects the Bible 🙄
And turned water into a lot of merlot.
Mary Magdalene huh
He did a rewrite on the Gospel?
Circumcision.
Right, because in the “That’s gross” hierarchy.... Spit Mud
Rise again
Left wing Hollywood & certain news outlets hires females much lower that men. Why not?
Won't bother watching it.
That stare is fucking good
Yeah, I'd totally want him to rub his spit on my eyes. Yeah, no. Only person allowed to do the spit on owwies or eyes thing is my mother.
this is utter blasphemy. joaquin phoenix is a great actor but playing Jesus? hell no. lol.
White Jesus? Nah... I'll pass on this one.
Sorry sir, you are already too old for the portrayal.
😂😂😂
No Mud. He didn’t use mud to heal the blind person. Joaquin licked his finger instead. There, now you don’t have to read the article. ✌🏽
Won't be wasting my money.
Thanks for the heads-up. I might have mistakenly gone to see this film.
Isn't he too old for the role
Movie Jesus always seems like a drugged out hippy.
Love God?
Yes, because your spit on her eyes is preferable to mud.
Wear blackface?
Joaquin Phoenix can't Put a smile on his face on his new flm 'Mary Magdalene.'
Ooh I could click on the article to find out thus earning cnn click $ but it turns out I don’t give a 💩.
He also refuses to Act Well. Like all his previous movies!!
Give up bacon?
1st Jesus could NOT have had long hair. Consider He said He came to fulfill the Law To do so He would have to keep all the Law, the Mosaic Law forbid men to have ling hair. If Jesus had long hair he broke the Law & did not fulfill it & therefore would not be the Christ, no long
He's going to be the JOKER. His brother was a great actor too.
What's impossible or even hard to believe for mere humanity is always possible for our Father
Jesus was only 33 when he died. And the mud I believe was symbolic of the beginning of human creation, everything was made through Him and for Him, and He can take the very same dirt that we return to and heal what's broken in His creation.
he didn't turn water to wine tho.
Refused to rub mud in a blind woman's eyes to cure her. FilmClickbait
Jesus did not have a perm.
2/3 ain’t bad, Jesus be having some boundaries.
Because he’s biblically vacant ... if you study the Bible, you KNOW why Jesus used mud... who does that? JESUS HollywoodElite DumbAsDirt
Won’t rub dirt in a woman’s eyes. Saved you a click.
Saving you from clickbait: he wouldn't rub mud in someone's eyes
