Australians have been warned to look out for a scam currently doing the rounds about a bonus $1800 ‘Centrelink’ payment that does not exist. Services Australia issued the warning on Monday, saying “unofficial websites” had been sharing misleading information about the fake payment for those who receive the Age Pension. “They may encourage you to read about a new ‘one off’ or ‘bonus’ payment by clicking a link. Only trust http://servicesaustralia.gov.au and http://my.gov.
It urged people to search its genuine website if they’re unsure about information they’ve seen online. “If the website URL doesn’t end in .gov.au then it isn’t an official government website,” Services Australia said. “We’ll always let you know when there are changes to any of our payments or services. We’ll let you know on our official website and official social media channels.” There are a host of other current Services Australia scams, including those related to myGov and Medicare.
