Kenny-Wayne-Shepherd News

Kenny Wayne Shepherd is back on the road this year, pushing a new album ('Dirt on My Diamonds, Vol. 1') and advancing a nearly 30-year recording career that continues to take deliberate twists and turns in how he's presenting his blend of rock and blues music.

-- with his 1995 debut album “Ledbetter Heights” -- he was an 18-year-old prodigy singing and playing guitar with the acuity of the blues and rock veterans who were his heroes. And who he’d met thanks to his father, a radio personality and concert promoter in Shreveport, La.

He’s been nominated for five Grammy Awards, has been a fixture on the all-star Experience Hendrix tours and released two albums with The Rides, a band he formed with two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Stephen Stills and the Electric Flag’s Barr Goldberg. Shepherd: It’s like this -- am I a blues artist that plays rock? Or a rock artist that plays blues? It’s hard to say. There’s so many different labels -- blues guitar player, blues-rock guitar player, contemporary blues...And “Dirt on My Diamonds,” to me this sounds like a fresh, new and young, energetic album. That’s my goal, to continue trying to put the music forward. I think if you listen to songs like “Sweet & Low,” “Best of Times,” “You Can’t Love Me”...all these songs.

Did re-recording “Trouble Is...” for its 25th anniversary in 2022 make any impact on “Dirt on My Diamonds?
