Fremantle and Sydney players have linked arms and paused for a moment’s silence before their AFL clash on Friday night to pay tribute to Cam McCarthy, who passed away on Thursday at just 29. Paramedics found the former Fremantle and GWS forward unresponsive at a house, believed to belong to his parents, at Lake Coogee in Perth’s south on Thursday night.

The packed crowd at Perth Stadium was on its feet in unison to remember McCarthy, who played 49 games for the Dockers, as well as 21 for GWS. Nat Fyfe and Alex Pearce, two of Fremantle’s most senior figures, were visibly emotional during the tribute to their former teammate.
