Governors Island’s Fountain House Gallery and Studio is participating as a 2024 Organization in Residence with an exhibition representing artists living with mental illness.

The exhibit, entitled Meditations on Medication: The Pill Bottle Project, was created by Fountain House Gallery and Studio artist Alyson Vega. The installation itself aims to create conversation around medication, routine, recycling, plastic waste, insurance, accessibility, and more.“We are excited to return to Governors Island after being designated as an Organization in Residence for the first time last year,” said Rachel Weisman, Director of Fountain House Gallery.

The exhibit will be constructed with empty orange prescription bottles, which were collected from the tri-state users of NextDoor and BuyNothing groups, Hell’s Kitchen neighbors, donations from M:25 Ministries as well as Fountain House members and staff. There is an ongoing collection of empty bottles, and visitors are encouraged to contribute their own empty bottles.

The Fountain House Gallery and Studio will be open to the public on Fridays through Sundays from now through Aug. 11, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.Vegetarian sloppy joes with a side of art: The new NoMad Diner in Midtown puts fancy spin on casual dining
