Rishi Sunak has ordered university bosses to clampdown on anti-Semitism linked to the fighting in Gaza amid fears the UK could import violent protests like those seen on US campuses.
Education Secretary Gillian Keegan today said there was a 'fear' that university campuses in the UK will become unsafe spaces for students and staff like in the US. Students at an encampment at the Old College at the University of Edinburgh, protesting against the war in Gaza yesterday He said: 'Every vice-chancellor understood there is a huge issue of anti-Semitism on campus, that Jewish students have been struggling for the last seven months.
Ms Keegan had earlier said vice-chancellors need to show leadership in response to protests against the war in Gaza. The Education Secretary told the broadcaster that there are 'rumours' that people in the US are talking to student groups in the UK.
