“Trump is ahead in large part due to more consolidated support from Republicans than Biden is getting from Democrats, while Trump also has a slight edge with independents,” the poll found. Mr. Biden defeated Mr. Trump in Pennsylvania in 2020 by just over a percentage point. The incumbent often points to his childhood in working-class Scranton as proof that he understands the struggles of middle-class Americans.
