Melbourne captain Max Gawn has admitted he couldn’t answer one of the doctor’s on-field questions after copping a head knock during the win over Geelong on Saturday night. The superstar Demon copped a knee to the head from Geelong big man Rhys Stanley in a ruck contest late in the third term. Gawn was slow to get up as the Cats kicked a goal from the resulting clearance. He then spent the next minute in a lengthy conversation with medical staff.
I said ‘I am not sure’ and the doctor goes ‘sh** I don’t know’. “It ended up being Richmond. I passed the on-ground test, just had a knee in the head.” Gawn was instrumental in the final term with one goal, three marks and nine disposals as the Dees emerged victorious by eight points. The captain highlighted how they changed their game plan to get the win over the previously unbeaten Cats. “With Geelong you have to beat them in the contest to get the ball,” he said.
