There were tears, laughter and, of course, music as friends and family came together at a moving funeral service for much-loved Star and Garter landlord Andy Martin. The dad-of two died in March aged 52, four days after being admitted to hospital with a suspected stroke.
The funeral heard how Andy grew up a music-mad Manchester United fan in White Moss in Blackley, as the youngest of five siblings. After stints working in computer games shops and a short spell at a computer games magazine he began working behind the bar at the Star and Garter, before eventually becoming the licensee.
"Of all the people who came to the pub, nobody was better than anyone else," said Julie. "He provided an affordable Xanadu.
