A gunman is on the run after allegedly shooting at a home while a family was inside in Western Sydney. Shots were fired from a light-coloured vehicle into the home on Myall St, Merrylands about 10pm on Tuesday, police said. No one was injured in the shooting as witnesses reported hearing a car speed away. About 10 minutes later, police found a white Hyundai hatchback well alight in Bennett St, Bass Hill. Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze.
7NEWS understands police are investigating whether the Hyundai was used in the shooting. Detectives and forensic police spent Tuesday night scouring the two crime scenes and going door-to-door in the area. Neighbours reported hearing several shots ring out in the usually quiet area. “I thought, ‘That’s not fireworks’,” one person told 7NEWS. One local said she was in shock, adding the neighbours were “very friendly”. “We’ve never had any problems,” she said.
