Comedian and former talk show host Ellen DeGeneres is back in the spotlight, two years after the cancellation of her popular TV show amid reports of a toxic workplace environment created by her producers.
Staff on her show alleged that producers had subjected them to racism and sexual harassment. The producers left the show which was subsequently cancelled after 19 seasons, with Ellen being branded"the most hated person in America". The comedian would always end her show by telling the audience,"be kind to one another," but after the scandal broke, the headlines were that the 'be kind girl' wasn't kind.“Do you know how hard it is to dance up steps? Would a mean person dance up steps? Had I ended my show by saying, ‘Go f*ck yourself,’ people would’ve been pleasantly surprised.”
“For those of you keeping score, this is the second time I’ve been kicked out of show business. Eventually, they’re going to kick me out for a third time because I’m mean, old and gay,” she quipped.Ellen said she decided to pull the plug on the talk show because it was time for it to end, but the intervening two years have been difficult for her.
