Sydney coach John Longmire has expressed his disappointment in the “unfair” reporting surrounding Sam Wicks’ goal celebration on the weekend. Wicks was stood down earlier this year after he was accused of acting inappropriately with a former girlfriend of a teammate.

John Longmire slams Sam Wicks comments. Reports suggested it created tension in the playing group, but the club publicly said they had dealt with the issue and moved on. Wicks missed two matches before returning to the senior line-up for the past two and was back in the spotlight over the weekend when he kicked a goal against Hawthorn and not one single Sydney player celebrated with him.
