He credited another country music star with helping to save his life during the medical emergency.

Colt Ford performs at the Throwdown By the Bay at the Amalie Arena on Friday, Dec. 12, 2014, in Tampa, Florida. Colt Ford broke his silence Tuesday following the heart attack that he suffered earlier this month, and the story the country music star is telling is downright scary.

The 54-year-old, who remains in an Arizona hospital where he has been since suffering the medical emergency, called in to the Big D & Bubba radio show on Tuesday.“It’s been a traumatic, crazy experience,” Ford told the hosts. “I didn’t even remember coming out here to do a show in Phoenix.” Ford said he is “not still 100 percent out of the woods yet,” but he added that he was working on a new album when this occurred and plans to finish the project.“I’m having to learn to be a little selfish for a while,” he said. “While I get myself better.”“I’m just going to try to keep fighting as hard as I can,” he said. “I appreciate you guys and all the fans.”
