The pilot killed in a light aircraft crash in Victoria on Saturday has been identified as father-of-three Greig Wanless, with the flight reportedly part of a memorial to scatter the ashes of his deceased best mate. It comes after his passenger was identified as Melbourne mother Kate Callingham, 38.
Crash victim Kate Callingham remembered as ‘beloved mother’. The pair were in the small aircraft when it crashed at Mount Beauty, more than 300km northeast of Melbourne, about 1.45pm on Saturday. Wanless’s widow Karen Wanless told the Herald Sun her husband was flying the aircraft to honour Callingham’s father Max, who was his best mate. The pair were scattering Max’s ashes during the flight, the Herald Sun reported. “He died doing the two things he loved — flying and helping people,” she said.
