American Brendan Steele holds a one-shot lead ahead of a lurking pack featuring Australia’s Cameron Smith after LIV Golf Adelaide’s second round. Steele produced a Saturday stunner, shooting eight-under 64 at The Grange to be 14 under, with Australia’s Smith three shots adrift. Australian Matt Jones is 10 under, while former world No.1 Jon Rahm will need a low Sunday final round for victory. Steele, a triple US PGA Tour winner, shot nine birdies, with a bogey at the par-4 11th his sole blemish.
The Queenslander is in contention after a second consecutive bogey-free round, having landed four birdies in his initial six holes. Smith said his driver is “starting to feel better”. “I think there were some changes that needed to be made and it was a little bit crappy there,” he said. “But it’s starting to feel really nice. It’s nice to be able to add that as another weapon, but there’s still some work to be done.” Jones also enjoyed a hot streak with four birdies in a five-hole stretch.
