Keith Brymer Jones, from London, speaks to Weekend Magazine about his show. READ MORE:Keith Brymer Jones is discussing the destructive power of dry rot when he starts fiddling with his phone.
Keith, of course, is the 58-year-old master potter who's known for crying over everything from toilets to toast racks on Throw Down, his tears a badge of honour for competitors akin to Bake Off's Hollywood Handshake. It's this passion that's won him many fans, among them Brad Pitt, who revealed his love for the show, and Keith in particular, in a 2022 interview.
Gutters were blocked, windows broken and slates missing. Water ran down the walls inside, brambles strangled outside. 'It was knee height,' says Keith. 'I poked my head through the hatch and couldn't breathe. The ammonia brought tears to your eyes.' 'If there's something I feel I can achieve, I'll achieve it.' Indeed. Making ceramics for the likes of Heal's and Habitat, he would often throw as many as 1,000 pots a day.Yet this isn't just a renovation show, it's a portrait of a partnership. 'The way I define love is we don't exploit each other's vulnerabilities,' says Keith.
'For friends,' says Marj. 'We're not having a wedding business.' Comparisons will be made with Escape To The Chateau, but the shows are very different. 'Our show is rooted in the community,' says Marj. 'And we don't have a moat!'
