A bomb threat has sparked a police operation at the University of Sydney. Students and staff were evacuated from multiple buildings at the campus on City Rd in Camperdown on Friday. “An exclusion zone is in place and the community is urged to avoid the area,” NSW Police said. University newspaper Honi Soit reported that Fisher Library, the New Law Building and the Abercrombie Business School have been evacuated.
Students set up a camp on the Quad on Tuesday, supporting similar protests at universities in the US in response to police action at Columbia University in New York. Law enforcement deployed Tasers and tear gas against student protesters at Atlanta’s Emory University at the behest of college administrators, Jewish Voice for Peace activists said. Elsewhere, officers clad in riot gear and mounted on horseback swept away demonstrations at the University of Texas in Austin.
