Florence Welch will make her debut at the BBC Proms 2024, in her only live performance of the summer, Vogue can exclusively reveal. The Florence and the Machine frontwoman talks to Vogue about reviving her hit debut album ‘Lungs’, and working with Taylor Swift on ‘Tortured Poets Department’.

Florence Welch is supposed to be on a break. After the Dance Fever tour drew to an earlier-than-expected close last summer, the Florence and the Machine frontwoman was deep in the “hibernation period” that traditionally follows a stretch of her famously energetic live performances. “There’s always a period where I’m like, okay, I’m not singing!” she says, laughing. “I’m not doing shows for a while.

“When you’re young you’re so unaware of what you’re doing, or where it will go or how it will last, or honestly, if it will be taken seriously – especially as a young woman,” she says. “It’s so easy to go back and see the cracks in your work. You go back and think, urgh, I would have done this better, or I would have done that differently.
