The long-standing character appeared in the very first episode of the iconic animated series, the 1989 Christmas special “Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire”

The Simpsons has killed off a long-running character after being part of the show for almost 35 years.

Larry was one of Homer’s best friends and a regular at Moe’s Tavern who appeared in the very first episode of The Simpsons, Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire, all the way back in December 1989. He appeared sporadically over the years, rarely saying a word. The character was voiced by Harry Shearer, who also provides the voices for several major Simpsons characters, including Mr Burns, Ned Flanders, and Waylon Smithers.

The group turn up at Larry's funeral only to realise that they don’t know much about their friend. They feel even worse after Larry’s mother pays an emotional tribute to her late son and says, “My Lawrence always talked about his best friends, the fellows at Moe’s Tavern. It would warm my heart if they came up and shared fond memories of my son.”
