Picture: Screenshot.Pop star Kelly Khumalo has angered EFF supporters after a television interview in which she discussed an incident where she left the stage at a KwaZulu-Natal EFF rally after only two songs amid chants of “Senzo” from the crowd.She told the show’s presenters, Musa Mthombeni and Kuli Roberts, that she had no regrets about cutting her performance short.
“You can say whatever you want to say to me but there’s that energy that says we’re all about war, and you feel it with those people, I felt that and I was like ‘this is not my place’, I kept saying to my DJ ‘this is not my place’,” she said.“I stand for the light, I stand for kindness, I stand for love,” she continued.
Her comments did not go down well among EFF supporters on social media, with Xabiso Mtwana tweeting: “We invited [Kelly Khumalo] to perform at one of our rallies in KZN and this is how she thank us. She go around spreading lies about the [EFF]. I want to warn her, she must not start something she won’t finish. Ungrateful bastard.”
His tweet has been widely shared, with over 300 “retweets” and over 500 “favourites” at the time of publication. It also garnered a response from ANC head of elections Fikile Mbalula, which in turn elicited a response from EFF leader Julius Malema.
