Four people have been hospitalised, including two with extensive burns, after an explosion at a unit in Brisbane. The incident happened at a property on Bowen Terrace, New Farm about 9.15am on Saturday. When fire services arrived at the scene the unit was fully immersed in flames. Five people were assessed by paramedics at the scene. Two people, a girl in her late teens and a man in his 40s, suffered extensive burns and were taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in serious conditions.

He said firefighters did a “fantastic job” containing the blaze to the one unit which was “completely destroyed”. “It was a very intense fire for the crews that arrived first on scene,” Vink said. He said four of the injured people were from one unit, while the fifth was from a neighbouring unit. The four people had to be rescued by fire crews, Vink said. “The unit was very well secured, which made it very difficult for them to get out and for us to actually get in.
