Hundreds of Australians have become stranded in Dubai airport after a year’s worth of rain caused flash flooding on Tuesday, resulting in major delays and closures across parts of the city. Victorian man, Kris*, was travelling to Malta via Dubai on an Emirates flight that left Melbourne’s Tullamarine airport on April 16.

Aussies stuck in Dubai airport after city hit by flash flooding. The plane circled Dubai for an hour, before being diverted to nearby Al Maktoum International Airport, where they were forced to wait seated on the plane for five hours, , Kris’s wife Monique told 7NEWS.com.au. After finally getting the all clear to fly the 20 minutes to Dubai, the passengers were again held on the plane for a further five-and-a-half hours without explanation.
