Supermarket shoppers have been left gobsmacked by a steep rise in the price of a popular everyday fruit at Coles and Woolworths. Punnets of blueberries have skyrocketed in price in recent weeks, with some customers reporting seeing the fresh fruit buy costing as much as $9 per 125g. Last week, a Woolworths shopper says packs of blueberries were priced at $8.90 at the Metro Sydney CBD store - while another Coles shopper claims blueberries hit $9 a punnet at its South West Rocks NSW store.

” But others were quick to point out that blueberries are currently not in season, prompting the price spike. “It’s not in season now. Only buy when things are in season to get a bargain. I have a blueberry bush at home,” one responded. Another said: “Just eat grapes, in season and cheap.” Woolworths and Coles respond A Woolworths spokesperson has confirmed to 7NEWS.com.au that blueberries are currently out of season.
