TV streaming company Roku has apologised after more than half a million accounts were impacted in two cyberattacks, and money drained from hundreds of linked bank accounts. The free TV streaming service, which operates in Australia and globally, allows its 80 million users to flick between free channels like 7plus and subscription services like Netflix, within a single interface system on Roku TVs.
“In less than 400 cases, malicious actors logged in and made unauthorised purchases of streaming service subscriptions and Roku hardware products using the payment method stored in these accounts,” Roku said. 7NEWS.com.au has contacted Roku to confirm the number of Australia Roku accounts compromised by the attack. Roku said it has already started to implement a number of measures to prevent similar credential stuffing attacks in the future.
