It's 'one of the worst humanitarian disasters in recent memory,' the U.N. says.

Monday marks one year since the conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces paramilitary group began.For Omnia Elgunaid, a university student, one year marks a somber milestone: "I can't believe a year has passed since the start of the worst nightmare of our lives," she told ABC News.

Satellite images show fire damage to one of the tallest buildings in the capital, Khartoum, the Greater Nile Petroleum Operating Company Tower in the central business district, which caught fire during clashes on Sept. 17, 2023.
