The security guard killed in the Bondi Junction massacre died protecting those around him, those close to him have revealed. Faraz Tahir, 30, was working as a security guard at Westfield Bondi Junction on Saturday afternoon when Queensland man Joel Cauchi, 40, stormed the busy shopping centre wielding a knife, sending it into lockdown. Cauchi fatally stabbed six people and injured at least 12 others before he was shot dead by police.

Videos of chaotic scenes inside Westfield Bondi Junction on Saturday show terrified shoppers falling over themselves as they rushed to escape the attacker. Some sheltered in locked stores as others fled the centre. Others grabbed what they could, a bollard or chair, to try to stop the attacker. Architect Jade Young, new mother Ashlee Good and entrepreneur John Singleton’s daughter Dawn Singleton have been identified as victims killed in the attack.
