North Melbourne’s top AFL draftee Colby McKercher has been sent to hospital to assess his ribs after colliding with Geelong superstar Jeremy Cameron. McKercher was on a collision course with Cameron as he trailed the ball into a contest late in the first quarter of North’s clash with the Cats on Saturday. The Roos youngster was tangled up with direct opponent Tom Atkins but was collected by Cameron when he got to the ball in what appeared to be a minor hit.
He still managed to get his hands on the ball and make a contest of it, but was down on his haunches as soon as the ball left his vicinity. Cameron too looked affected by the hit but recovered much quicker than his junior counterpart. McKercher was hunched over in obvious pain for an extended moment before trainers got to him and he was taken off the ground. Club doctors took him down into the rooms to assess his ribs before making the swift decision to take him to hospital.
